Starting a career straight out of university can be daunting, but for Manya Sinha, joining Sensat as a Junior Geospatial Data Engineer marked the beginning of a journey filled with exciting challenges, innovative projects, and supportive teammates. Over the past year, Manya has transitioned from academia to a fast-paced professional environment, working with cutting-edge data technologies and making an impact on industry-leading projects. We sat down with Manya to learn about her first year at Sensat, the growth she’s experienced, and what keeps her motivated.

Manya joined Sensat after completing her studies, driven by her passion for geospatial data. “At university, I worked with satellite data and got interested in remote sensing,” she shares. “When I came across Sensat, it stood out because of its unique focus on 2D and 3D geospatial data and digital twin technology. It wasn’t the construction industry that drew me in—it was the innovative work they did with data.”
Despite no open roles at the time, Manya proactively reached out to the team with her resume. “The tech behind Sensat’s work excited me, so I just pushed my way in,”
What Was Your First Impression of Sensat?
“My first impression was overwhelmingly positive,” Manya recalls. “I had no idea how startups worked, but right from the beginning, I felt welcome. I spoke with people from all teams—marketing, sales, data—within my first week. It helped me break the ice and understand how everything comes together on a larger scale.”
Joining as the first data engineer on the team added an extra layer of excitement. “The data team was still new, so we figured things out together. It was a lot of fun to explore new approaches and innovate.”
How Did Sensat Support Your Transition from University to Work?
Manya credits Sensat’s support for making her transition seamless. “When I joined, I didn’t have much experience navigating things like visas and housing,” she says. “Emma from HR went above and beyond to help me, sitting with me through my visa process and even providing financial support for my application.”
This level of care stood out to Manya. “It felt so humane. I received more support from Sensat than my university during a similar process. It made me feel valued right from the start.”
What Skills Have You Gained?
Over her first year, Manya’s skills have expanded significantly. “Coming out of university, I was used to working on individual projects, but here I learned how to collaborate on large-scale initiatives,” she explains. “I’ve built scalable data pipelines, worked with new geospatial technologies, and gained exposure to domains I hadn’t worked with before.”
Manya also highlights the importance of soft skills. “Working in a team environment and understanding how my work impacts the larger company has been a huge learning curve, but it’s incredibly rewarding.”
What Makes Sensat’s Culture Unique?
“The culture here is warm, welcoming, and transparent,” Manya says. “I was surprised by how open communication is. We have regular company-wide updates where leaders share goals and progress, creating a sense of alignment and purpose.”
For Manya, this transparency has been a key motivator. “Initially, I wondered why I needed to know about things outside my team, but over time, I realised how important it is to see how your work contributes to the company’s direction.”
What’s Been Your Most Exciting Project?
“The M25 project stands out as a highlight,” Manya shares. “It involved processing massive amounts of data—capturing, queuing, reprocessing, and ensuring high quality. It was challenging, but it showed how dedicated we are to delivering excellence. The whole team supported each other through it, and the result was incredibly satisfying.”
She also enjoyed working on automation pipelines for the Digital Landscape product. “Creating repeatable, scalable processes has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my role.”
What Advice Do You Have for New Joiners?
“Don’t treat Sensat like a traditional company,” Manya advises. “Be open to talking to people across teams and understanding how your work fits the bigger picture. Sensat is small and collaborative, so take advantage of the opportunity to learn from everyone.”
What Keeps You Excited About Sensat?
For Manya, it’s all about the technology. “The innovative work we do with geospatial data and AI motivates me. From day one, I’ve had the chance to work with cutting-edge tools and contribute to exciting projects. It’s never just talk—what we’re doing is real, impactful, and constantly evolving.”
